Jeffries praises Eric Adams for serving 'courageously'

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) praised New York City Mayor Eric Adams (D) for serving “courageously” after Adams ended his independent reelection campaign Sunday.

“Eric Adams has served courageously and authentically for decades as a Member of the N.Y.P.D., the New York State Senate, in Brooklyn Borough Hall and as our 110th Mayor,” Jeffries said in a statement reported by multiple media outlets.

“During his time in office, violent crime is down, the building of affordable housing units is up and New York City has recovered from the COVID-19 pandemic,” he added.

Adams, New York City’s mayor since 2022, exited the race less than a month before early voting begins. His departure sets up a three-way race between Democratic nominee Zohran Mamdani, Republican nominee Curtis Sliwa and former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D), who is running as an independent.

AOC Defends Her Vote Against GOP Resolution by Going Scorched Earth: 'We Should Be Clear About Who Charlie Kirk Was'

Source: Mediaite

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) took to the House floor Friday to explain why she voted “No” on the GOP-backed resolution honoring conservative activist Charlie Kirk and condemning political violence.

Kirk was assassinated while speaking at Utah Valley University on September 10. Aftershocks from his death have dominated headlines ever since, as President Donald Trump and members of his administration have promised retaliation for anyone “celebrating Kirk’s death.”

The vote was 310-58, with 95 Democrats supporting the resolution brought forward by Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA).

AOC explained that “condemning the depravity of Kirk’s brutal murder is a straightforward matter…We can disagree with Charlie and come together as a country to denounce the horror of killing. That is a bedrock American value.”

House, Senate pass 'National Day of Remembrance for Charlie Kirk' ahead of memorial service

Source: ABC News

Days before a memorial service for Charlie Kirk, the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives passed a "National Day of Remembrance" for the conservative influencer after he was killed on Sept. 10.

The Senate on Thursday unanimously approved a resolution marking Oct. 14, 2025 -- Kirk's birthday -- a "National Day of Remembrance for Charlie Kirk."

While on the Senate floor, Sen. Rick Scott, the Florida Republican leading the passage of the resolution, said he is "proud to have the support of more than 20 of my colleagues to honor Charlie by dedicating his birthday" as this day of remembrance.

"Charlie was a good man -- a devout husband, father, and friend. His life was shaped by his faith and the idea that in America, debate and discussion are crucial to the betterment of our country," Scott said on Thursday.

Ex-Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg says Biden 'should not have run' for reelection

Source: Washington Times

Former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg’s opinion on whether his former boss, President Joseph R. Biden, should have run for re-election has shifted from “maybe” to an outright no.

“He should not have run,” Mr. Buttigieg said Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press.” “And if he had made that decision sooner, we might have been better off.”

Mr. Buttigieg is considering a 2028 presidential run, and the question of whether Mr. Biden should have sought re-election has become a litmus test in the early jockeying for position among the possible Democratic contenders.

In her new memoir, “107 Days,” former Vice President Kamala Harris, who replaced Mr. Biden atop the Democratic ticket after his disastrous Atlanta debate performance, added more fuel to the fire, describing Mr. Biden’s re-election push as reckless.

Fetterman says Democrats have 'forgotten why we lost' and Trump is 'not an autocrat'

Source: CNN

Democratic Sen. John Fetterman has a warning for his party: learn from the politically charged whirlwind that put Donald Trump back in the White House and secured Republicans control of both chambers of Congress or risk staying in the minority.

“They have forgotten one of the reasons why we lost in 2024,” Fetterman said of his fellow Democrats in a wide-ranging interview with CNN’s Manu Raju on “Inside Politics Sunday.”

The Pennsylvania Democrat, who was first elected by just a five-point margin in 2022, said some of the party’s more left-wing views were “weaponized” against Democrats last fall.

“Some people think now we have to double down on those things or we must become more progressive or more extreme,” said Fetterman, who has renounced the “progressive” label in recent years, continuing, “That’s absolutely not true. The seven or eight states that are going to determine who’s going to be our next president, you know, we have to win in those states, and I understand what that takes.”

Mamdani, if Elected Mayor, Pledges to Order N.Y.P.D. to Arrest Netanyahu

Zohran Mamdani, the Democratic nominee for mayor of New York City, said that if elected, he would order the New York Police Department to arrest the prime minister of Israel if he sets foot in the city, offering new details on how he plans to carry out a campaign pledge.

Mr. Mamdani said in an interview with The New York Times on Thursday that the prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, was a war criminal who was committing genocide in Gaza. If the Israeli leader were to come to New York, Mr. Mamdani said, he would honor a warrant issued by the International Criminal Court for Mr. Netanyahu’s arrest by having him apprehended at the airport.

Legal experts suggested that having Mr. Netanyahu arrested would be a practical impossibility, and some said it could violate federal law. Even so, Mr. Mamdani’s pledge will likely provoke strong reactions in New York, the second-largest home to Jews in the world.

Although New Yorkers now generally express support for Palestinians over Israel in its war with Hamas, Mr. Mamdani’s vow could still complicate his attempt to reassure a segment of Jewish leaders who had expressed concern about some of his stances, including his refusal to condemn the phrase “globalize the intifada.” He has since said he would discourage the use of the phrase, even as he holds to his position that Israel’s leader is a war criminal.

Wonder what would happen if he actually did that.

Very touching post by Gov. Gavin Newsom, showing what a President should look like

I knew Charlie, and I admired his passion and commitment to debate. His senseless murder is a reminder of how important it is for all of us, across the political spectrum, to foster genuine discourse on issues that deeply affect us all without resorting to political violence.
