Appeals court allows Trump to swiftly deport migrants to third countries

Source: The Hill

A federal appeals court ruled Monday that the Trump administration may keep swiftly deporting migrants to countries where they have no ties as a legal challenge unfolds.

The 2-1 vote on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 1st Circuit contained no explanation. The panel also expedited the schedule for the case’s next stage.

The Trump administration as part of its aggressive immigration crackdown has ramped up sending migrants to places other than their home countries, known as third country removals. It has struck deals with Cameroon, South Sudan and Eswatini, among other countries, to take in deportees.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has defended the practice by saying it is aimed at removing some of the most “barbaric” individuals living illegally in the U.S. In court, the Trump administration has mainly argued that federal judges have no authority to intervene.

I seem to recall reading that fewer than 10% of the people deported by ICE had any criminal record.

I haven't seen you pose that question to other OPs who share disappointing LBN stories. To answer your question, it seems like a poor choice at first glance, but (al least according to post #1), two out of those three judges were appointed by Biden, so there might be a reasonable explanation for the decision.

I will often ask a poster's opinion if they post Trump-positive stories without comment. It's mostly just my curiosity about the wide range of opinions on a democratic board among democratic posters who are in theory supposed to have democratic beliefs. I don't know if I've asked you before. I don't keep track of my posts at that level of granularity. Do you? Maybe you often post Trump-positive stories without commentary. If so, maybe I have.

I'm not sure you answered my question, anyway.

I feel LBN is for all news. Even if it's horrible news, we have to post it so others can see it. Like when RBG passed away. We had to post and talk about it, since it's a discussion forum. Or when the election was called for Trump.

I do recall you criticizing my LBN post commentary a couple of weeks ago, so I removed the comment. I guess it's dammed if I do, dammed if I don't.
