2. even 2K is a lot for people on fixed income like Social Security or disability.

that is 2000/12 which is roughly 166 a month. Significant for those who are on a $1200 a month social security.
I do agree with you that 2K is probably an underestimate given that companies will use that opportunity to jack up their price above what is needed to compensate for the tariffs in order to make more money and use the tariffs as an excuse.
