This question is quite reasonable.

All things being equal, of course I'd rather have Hillary than Trump.

I live in North Carolina. It's very red, here. Whether the locals actually like him or not, most of the state is going to vote for Trump. My vote will not count except as part of grand popular vote tallies.

I'm pretty sure Hillary is going to win this. However, I would prefer to not give Hillary that extra notch that can be used to argue that she has a mandate.

Right now, Hillary is showing more interest in getting Republicans to vote for her instead of putting the effort into left-wing progressives. She wishes to shore up her center-oriented base and not the left, as the left will oppose her policies (like TPP and H1 visas) when she's in office.
