Question for the "I'll never vote for Hillary" people.

This discussion thread was locked by Skinner (a host of the 2016 Postmortem forum).

Have you voted Democratic for president anytime in the last 30+ years? Because if you did, then you voted for someone who was either similar to Hillary ideologically, or to her right.

And in those other elections, we weren't facing a Trump. Say what you will about Romney or McCain, neither of them is Trump.

So what's going on this time around? I get that some Bernie or Busters have been voting Green this whole time anyway, but what possible reason could there be to not vote Hillary over Trump, but yes vote Obama over Romney?

I will vote my conscience and vote for Jill Stein unless Hillary makes some dramatic change in her positions. This will be my first non-Dem vote in 35 years.

That's what's changed for me this time. Also I don't live in a swing state.

By not making climate change his #1 priority.

There's no more time for the planet. Hillary’s incrementalism is too little too late. I have to live with myself knowing I did everything possible, including my vote.

I honestly don't see much difference between Hillary and Bernie on the environment, but I guess you do. And also, I think Obama has done very well on the environment, given the GOP obstruction.

I'm truly just wondering what it is about Hillary that makes people not be able to vote for her if they could vote for Obama/Kerry/Gore. And that's so that I can maybe in the future better address those concerns when discussing issues with disaffected liberals.

Do not state that you are not going to vote, or that you will write-in a candidate that is not on the ballot, or that you intend to vote for any candidate other than the official Democratic nominee in any general election where a Democrat is on the ballot.

I'm in Texas. I can afford to give my votes to Green or liberal independents until a Democrat who isn't beholden to Wall Street is fielded.

The injury to my nose varied. McGovern - minimal. Dukakis, Mondale - slight, Carter - more than a bit, Kerry -significant, Bill Clinton - severe damage.

I also voted 3rd party 3 times. Nose injury was minuscule to non-existent.

This question is quite reasonable.

All things being equal, of course I'd rather have Hillary than Trump.

I live in North Carolina. It's very red, here. Whether the locals actually like him or not, most of the state is going to vote for Trump. My vote will not count except as part of grand popular vote tallies.

I'm pretty sure Hillary is going to win this. However, I would prefer to not give Hillary that extra notch that can be used to argue that she has a mandate.

Right now, Hillary is showing more interest in getting Republicans to vote for her instead of putting the effort into left-wing progressives. She wishes to shore up her center-oriented base and not the left, as the left will oppose her policies (like TPP and H1 visas) when she's in office.

Obama lost there both times by less than 2% of the vote. As POC populations grow, it will definitely flip, either this election cycle or in the next couple.

Despite your reservations about Hillary, would you not want your state to go blue?

Also, I would say that Hillary with a mandate would govern further left than Hillary without a mandate, because she will have more strength in fighting against the GOP.

Then lost it in 2012.

After that experience Hillary will have a very hard slog. I don't think it will happen. There's a very big not-Hillary faction here.

I don't think you can use Obama's record to predict much of anything for Hillary.
