Remember how they found dead soldiers in that huge convoy? Poor buggers had packed their dress uniforms for their parade but no spare food, water, fuel, or ammunition, Many were found to be conscripts, something that was illegal under Russian law and which meant they'd had no training.

I've noticed that few of the people he's purged have replacements unless he's very quietly replacing them with FSB operatives and that will work even less well than failing to replace them, at all.
