We couldn't think of a name so he became KittyCat. I've never gotten to know any of our previous cats as well as him.
Calliope is a wonderful name. Has she been with you her whole life? I imagine she needs you now more than ever.

re: wagon axle — Your curiosity stirred mine. I'd not looked closely at it until now. I went right out and took some flash pictures, including this one — 
removed the background to get this —
did a google images search and it looks to be an antique wagon wheel hub.
There were too many weeds on this photo —
to do a similar search, but I'm convinced you are correct that it is a wagon axle.
I'll invest some time in daylight to pull weeds and take more pictures.
