He asked to go out in the afternoon. Grabbing camera, I found him on the porch. Just sitting.
Suddenly he jumped down and trotted to an old woodshed.
Looking high and low, sniffing, checking things out.
It was a good day for an extended roll.
Post-roll KC shook once and made his way to the flower garden beside the porch.
The grass is pretty nibble-able.
He stepped onto the paving stones, looking,
sniffing,
stretching,
until he came to the opening for the hatchway (which is waiting on new cellar doors).
He's explored the cellar before, so he wanted to see if he could get down there.
Alas the door was closed.
Undeterred KC walked over to and underneath the back porch.
The porch is his refuge from THE DOG. Safe and sound in times of Shadow chasing him.
He hung out.
I went inside both batteries, mine and the camera's were running low.
Later on KC took a nap. A good Cat Nap. He earned it.

Your documenting KC's adventure touched my heart. I know you've posted many photo essays featuring KC, but this one got to me in the very best way. Thank you, brother.
This doesn't follow, but I'm curious about what looks to be an antique wagon axle in "Alas, the door was closed." That would make for an interesting photo subject on its own.

Calliope is a wonderful name. Has she been with you her whole life? I imagine she needs you now more than ever.
You're welcome for KC's essay. I am glad it touched you "in the very best way."
Thank you, brother, for walking along with us on his adventure. It's very gratifying to find out my photography has evoked emotion.
re: wagon axle Your curiosity stirred mine. I'd not looked closely at it until now. I went right out and took some flash pictures, including this one
removed the background to get this
did a google images search and it looks to be an antique wagon wheel hub.
There were too many weeds on this photo
to do a similar search, but I'm convinced you are correct that it is a wagon axle.
I'll invest some time in daylight to pull weeds and take more pictures.
Thank You,
GMcG

You've got the entire axle and hubs! I see lots of possibilities for the relic, in addition to photos. There might more relics around your new place. If there's an old rubbish pit you might find antique bottles and other interesting stuff.
You're welcome,
Mouse
