4. Primarily, the people

About 70 percent are liberal, or at least Democratic, and you can make an easy acquaintance with many while just strolling down Pacific Avenue. On a nice weekend day, there'll be plenty of buskers there, too.

Then there's the Pacific Ocean, about ¾-mile from our house. Always some surfing going on, some pretty damned good if the surf's breaking at Steamer Lane. And nearest to us, between The Point and The Hook, lots of dogs walking their humans.

Plenty of good, independent restaurants, burger joints, coffee shops and bodegas.

Reasonably cool cops. Or maybe I should just say "Reasonable cops."

I wiish I'd been born here instead of moving here 16 years ago. Probably would've made a big difference in my life.
