I looked like a lampshade. I don't recall wearing the confection again.

I think the whole thing started when most women had 2 changes of clothing, the everyday dress and the Sunday best. On Easter, she debuted the next year's Sunday best. The old everyday dress was shot and ready to be cut up into kid clothes, towels, rags, and quilt fabric. The old Sunday best was looking just a tad shabby and became the everyday dress.
