16. I've been a cat rescuer for decades, and I have seen this over and over

I can't tell you all the times I've searched and searched for an owner I'm sure must be grieving the loss of a wonderful pet--only once did I ever find anyone. Whole litters of kittens dumped into the wild, after the family's played with them a while, now that they're big enough to need vet care and cause real damage in the house.

My current foster came crying at my door before the last freeze. I bribed him in with food--not hard; he ate 3 6-oz cans before deciding he was full. He was chewed up from fights, intact, probably not vaxxed. He was so glad to be inside with a bed and toys all his very own. If he wasn't in his bed, he wanted to be in my arms, purring like a train.

I'll never understand it, no matter how many times I see it. How could someone discard a previously beloved family member.

(Now that he's vaxxed, his infected wounds treated, neutered, and chipped, he's for adoption, if any Central Texas folks are interested. He's made a friend he'd like to come along:

catrose. you are a blessing to the furry creatures that have been given up to fend on their own. debm55 Mar 2023 #17
Thanks so much. That's sweet of you to say. The cats mostly seem to appreciate it (except the vet). catrose Mar 2023 #19
