Does it bother anyone else, about the constant reports of people dumping their dogs and cats. Can't

fathom how anyone could do that? It makes me feel so sad that they could do something like that and just walk away. My heart hearts. I can't figure out if it's the cost or what. How can some people be so cruel.

Our sweet loyal dog is suddenly experiencing some symptoms that are going to require an investment of time and money.

Would never abandon him after all his loyalty and devotion.

Then didn't know what to do when they had to go back to the office and the dogs had grown up.

And that is in no way an excuse for it.

Is because they wound up homeless or similar ... but that's obviously not always the case.

But yeah, otherwise, I hate humanity and feel like beating these people up, so ... it's something of a defense mechanism to hope 'there must've been a real reason ... maybe their kid had cancer and it was either the child or the dog' type of thing.

It's incredibly dismaying

And I'd wager that cats get left behind even more often.

to take their aging dogs with them to residential care facilities--something that pains me beyond belief. And in at least some of those cases, I note that these people die soon after--even where they did not have a terminal condition.

So for those who dump a dog out of inconvenience, as the novelty wears off or any other unjustified reason, I have nothing but condemnation and hope in many cases that they are charged with cruelty.

For those who are forced to give up a beloved dog, I hope we can help them to avoid this moving forward. I know some people who ONLY adopt/foster aging dogs. To me, these people are just the best.

He came to my back door on my second floor deck, hung around for a few months. But I could tell he wasn’t feral, he liked being petted is and dashed in the door all the time. eventually I took him in, got him shots and so forth. He still lives in the house now after years. But it also makes me very sad when people do that, I often wonder if a boyfriend or girlfriend insisted on it. Sometimes it’s a matter of changing landlords

I'd sooner put my dog down than abandon him or take him to shelter.

And I'm definitely worried that I won't be able to afford recommended treatment for his current ailment.

I'm sure this is a problem for others, as well.

The only way to tell if a dog has been dumped is to see bones and fear.

Then there are rescues. Ours is a street rescue.

There is a no euthanasia policy here.

I can't tell you all the times I've searched and searched for an owner I'm sure must be grieving the loss of a wonderful pet--only once did I ever find anyone. Whole litters of kittens dumped into the wild, after the family's played with them a while, now that they're big enough to need vet care and cause real damage in the house.

My current foster came crying at my door before the last freeze. I bribed him in with food--not hard; he ate 3 6-oz cans before deciding he was full. He was chewed up from fights, intact, probably not vaxxed. He was so glad to be inside with a bed and toys all his very own. If he wasn't in his bed, he wanted to be in my arms, purring like a train.

I'll never understand it, no matter how many times I see it. How could someone discard a previously beloved family member.

(Now that he's vaxxed, his infected wounds treated, neutered, and chipped, he's for adoption, if any Central Texas folks are interested. He's made a friend he'd like to come along:
