1. This is definitely a Republican shutdown.

The Republicans can reopen the government tomorrow if they wanted to.

All they got to do is either a) negotiate and do a deal with Schumer and the Democrats. Or b) nuke the filibuster rule.

Democrats had tried to nuke the filibuster in the past yet certain senators said "no". Those senators are no longer senators BTW. Do the Republicans not have the votes to get rid of the filibuster on their side? Or maybe they see an advantage in spinning the reason for shutdown and blaming Democrats and also want to threaten some other more cruel things too?

I urge Schumer and company to please hold strong. I see this as Republican bullying in order to "own the libs" in part and also to keep the filibuster so that when they're in the minority again this "tradition" of 60 votes will hold and they can get more leverage as a minority party in a few years time with a filibuster in place rather than just nuking it and being left in the cold when they become the minority again.
