Every summer we took the train or flew from California to visit. One year I was sleeping over at my uncles house who lived in the Oak park area. I was woken up and rushed down into the cellar as a tornado was coming. I remember the sounds of the creaking of the house and the wind. The next day I saw cars overturned, downed poles and pieces of peoples roofs on the street. It was kind of apocalyptic in my 10 year old mind, living in San Francisco I knew about earthquakes but not tornados.
