There are a couple things at play here. Firstly, Rushbo hopes for a lot of outrage...it gets him attention. Be assured his audience (which has been sinking like a rock in recent years) will be pumped up today as people will want to hear what outrageous thing comes out of his piehole. He needs those ratings as talk radio...and in specific hate radio...has done poorly in the "People Meter" age and its this kind of outburst in the past that's helped rushbo get attention and turn it into ratings and money. His owners...Bain Capital...are desperate for both...seeing billions they've spent on radio properties sink into quicksand. They need to turn hate radio into a lightning rod that attracts ears of all sorts and they don't care how over-the-top rushbo goes. John Hogan...new CEO of Cheap Channel is scared shit of rushbo and any political shitstorm that would follow any actions taken against him....and rushbo knows it.
The other game at play is the downward spiral of rushpublican politics where the more outrageous the more attractive a candidate becomes to the great unhinged who are a large percentage of the rushpublican vote. Not only will no one dare to speak out against rushbo...and those that do will do it in the most tepid fashion...they're quietly encouraged by this knowing that he's got their flank...taking the heat while they go on spewing about destroying social security, making it difficult for a woman not only to get a safe abortion but any health care at all and now attacking the educated as being the "elite". They don't sound as goofy compared to what blows out of rushbo.
Rushbo and corporate radio are in a deep embrace...he's destroyed so much of what used to be local full service and talk radio and led the way to the nationally syndicated bile that dominates much radio today...and the corporates have no alternative.
