The scope of discovery is broad.

For instance, in a deposition, your attorney can preserve objections, but can't, with narrow exceptions, instruct or allow you not to answer.

For interrogatories, you can seek admissible information or information that might reasonably lead to admissible information.

IOW: Once you sue somebody, prepare to have your entire life examined.

Things may not be admissible in court, but they most likely can be found out in discovery.
