.....I doubt that the Earth Day protestors had to be concerned that their own government might arrest them for exercising their freedom of speech.
Or that the supporters of the president might harm them.
Or that the Speaker of the House and Cabinet members might stir up hatred (& potential violence) against them by labeling the Earth Day protestors as domestic terrorists, as we have experienced in this era.
I, too, would love the No Kings numbers to be even bigger, but I think there were some people who stayed home for fear for their personal safety. I think we should feel really good about the turnout, though!

US population in 1970 was 203 million, so the Earth Day protests then comprised 10% of the population

If someone is afraid for their safety to protest FASCISM I think they might be missing the point maybe?
