8. I quit Amazon a while back, and at first it did seem as if there were no good alternatives.

But then I realized that just isn't true. Most retailers, even those who also go through Amazon, have a site you can order from and they'll ship to you via USPS. And they're getting better about customer service and shipping for free, etc. Sadly, it is true that brick and mortar stores are hard to find, but a lot of retailers are changing that too.

The only thing I have noticed is that shipping times are a few days longer. For many sites the costs are higher, but I've been able to shop around and find most things for costs close to or sometimes even less than I find on Amazon. I'm using a lot of ebay and etsy too.

Yes. It's no longer a couple of clicks and the product is on its way to me in two days. But I find that's had a lot of advantages I hadn't anticipated. I'm spending less on impulse buys and I'm finding higher quality items (bc lets face it, Amazon defaults to very cheap and badly made products). I'm certainly not living in a cave and gathering my food.

And look at that article again. Amazon is working with ICE. That's despicable.
