4. Because no really good alternatives exist?

For Facebook, the only alternatives I know of are my space (yes, it still exists) and several very private invitation only groups for families. For Amazon, there are some businesses with their own websites, but a lot of them now go through Amazon, and other large chains (target, walmart, temu, shein) have their own issues. If you live in a rural area where the nearest store larger than your local convenience store is an hour or more drive away, Amazon may be the only one other than the post office that will deliver things to you.
