I added the below to my post above:
I tried contesting the auto-renewal by chat, but was told that membership cancellations are handled by phone, and was given a phone number.
Today, Oct 10, I called and after I gave a little mini-history above, he said he will cancel immediately and I will get a refund. I got an email right away saying my membership has been cancelled but nothing about the refund.
But on a whim, I checked my credit card account, and sure enough it showed a $99 "return" from ShipT pending.
So, I'm still a little upset about being blindsided by a membership renewal and credit card charge without warning, but am happy that a phone call cleared it up.
It also took a lot of time previous checking things out on their website and making history notes and prepping for the phone call and so on. One reason for doing this prep, and for worrying about making the phone call, was this clause in the terms and conditions: "Notwithstanding the foregoing ((on membership cancellation -progree)), if you have previously been a Shipt member, you will not be eligible for a membership fee refund."
Well, that clause fits me, I was previously a member for 2 years.
Overall, I would still recommend ShipT given prior positive customer service interactions I've had, but with a warning to put on calendar a month in advance to consider cancelling an annual membership. (I'm not familiar with month-to-month membership, presumably those auto-renew too, so similar put some note on one's calendar to consider cancelling before the renewal date).

Many eBay sellers are full-time businesses. They have to register with eBay as such.

I think the point of the article is that those people who do rely on Amazon have a right to expect a better service

I can't say for sure, but what is probably happening is the first page you see is the actual items, unsorted.

I may return to Amazon when they feel the pressure of government regulation and labor unions again.

Some companies are so big, & their competitors too, that they just don't care if they piss their customers off.

I generally use DDG. However, I still sense dilution. Wikipedia is far and away my top general source.
