6. Unlike other states I am familiar with, Ala.schools are not funded by property taxes.

The money comes from the General budget.
Which means property taxes are very very low.
A $100 k house has under 400.00 annual property taxes.

If owners are blind,or disabled or over 65, zero property taxes.
It's an enticing retirement state, especially for us low income retirees.
