…fails to recognize that women’s experience is very different from men’s, and we actually do have different needs.

To be sure, we would love to have our fathers, husbands, lovers, sons, and brothers earn a living wage and get universal health care. But unless universal health care recognizes the full spectrum of women’s health care needs by law, it’s not doing us any good and women will still die of preventable things like sepsis.

A living wage likewise leaves us very far behind if adequate paid maternal leave and ability to take time to go to the pediatrician (without boss and co-workers resentment) are not factored in. Affordable child care is a must if we are to be able to work at all.

That particular rising tide of Bernie’s will not raise our boats. It doesn’t feel like justice to me.
