Why Trump is so keen on tariffs. Every other explanation he gives is a lie. [View all]
The money collected from tariffs, like other taxes, goes to the Treasury Department and is used to fund the government's overall budget. In other words, it will wind up in Trump's slush fund, aka the "sovereign wealth fund" he's been braying about.
