The money collected from tariffs, like other taxes, goes to the Treasury Department and is used to fund the government's overall budget. In other words, it will wind up in Trump's slush fund, aka the "sovereign wealth fund" he's been braying about.

the government that imposes the tariff collects revenue from it, which should be used for public spending. Perhaps the cost is spread amongst importer, seller, consumer and government. IDK. Maybe there's a government expert who can explain it? Oh wait... he/she's probably been fired.
