In reply to the discussion: Rashida Tlaib speaking minutes ago [View all]madaboutharry
(42,015 posts)15. The First Amendment protects political speech.
Her speech over the last month has contained many lies, misrepresentations, and slanders. She could make her arguments by stating facts rather than using inflammatory rhetoric and false information. The video she posted on X was just wrong. President Biden is not committing genocide. Her credibility and her power would be so better served if she were able to state her positions without lying or slandering the president.
That said, she has the right to say what she wants. Even if many find some of what she says hateful. This censure vote feels wrong.
BTW. I do believe she is antisemitic, no matter how much she denies it. I have the right to believe that.

And at the same time: Santos, Gaetz, TFG, Speaker Johnson all get pats on the back.

She has slurred President Biden as a genocide supporter, and spread vicious lies about him

An apology would be a reasonable move, but she is also right on the nose with what she says in this speech. nt

Bashing the president in such a cruel manner is unforgivable at least until she retracts

The collective punishment hits home for me. My beloved family lives in Cuba. Also being collectively punished.

The rest of the planet agrees that the US is in violation at the UN. With Israel abstaining from the vote.

Right right, Cuba has free and fair elections, and is a socialist paradise or whatever.

Not just the most recent, but, for decades the UN has condemned US sanctions - with Israel abstaining.

I admire her. Their fucking censure is less than snake shit on a sidewalk. Fuck them.

I don't have to admire them. She spoke what she feels. I'm good with that. So is Biden

Of course, the obvious difference is that Hamas attempts to maximize deaths of both Palestinian and Israeli children

If Hamas was holed up in your neighborhood, would you still think is the way to go?

Did she take back her ridiculous gaslighting about what "from the river to the sea" means?

Do you really believe that the GOP wasn't thinking about doing this for years?

Is she the one who claimed that "from the river to the sea" is aspirational rather than homicidal anti-Semitism?
