Having had been in combat many times myself, you really have no idea how you’re going to react in those sort of situations until you actually experience it.

I’d even gander to say that just because you reacted one way one time, that doesn’t mean that’s how you’re going to react the next time.

During my first firefight, I was calm and collected and reacted very deliberately. Several firefights later I was blown up by an IED and I couldn’t stop shaking a stuttering for what seemed like an eternity - my soldiers made fun of me for that one!! During subsequent firefights, I was again calm and collected.
