Donald Trump's strategy is to bet one juror will be 'in his camp': ex-prosecutor [View all]

Raw Story (7/6/23):

On MSNBC, former U.S. attorney Joyce Vance was asked if taking the classified documents case to trial is the right move for Trump.

"Again, it's a nuanced question," she answered. "I suppose the question is, what outcome are you seeking? Are you trying to go to prison for as little time as possible given the overwhelming evidence here? And that doesn't seem to be the strategy. We don't really know what's on the former president's mind, but I think it's an earnest guess to say that he hopes that one or more of the jurors will be in his camp and will not vote to convict him."

Vance elaborated, saying, "That's what prosecutors would call some form of jury nullification. Even though the evidence is there for whatever reason one or more jurors don't vote to convict and that seems to be Trump's strategy, with a sort of healthy side dose of delay tactics."

My guess is that this is why the Slobster is repeating his message over and over again, at rallies and in television interviews. "I have an absolute right to those documents under the Presidential Records Act. I'm under indictment to protect you. No one has ever indicted a former president who is the clear front runner in the 2024 election."

I would call it the Goebbels Defense: "If you repeat a lie often enough it becomes the truth." He's trying to poison the jury pool. TFG knows it only takes one juror to result in a hung jury. All he has to do is create a "reasonable doubt" in the mind of that one juror. Then Judge Cannon can arguably shut down the case entirely or at the least postpone a re-trial until after the election, which -- given the shenanigans of the last election (culminating in January 6) -- T***p is absolutely certain he will win. Once he's in office he believes he will shut down the federal investigations while claiming to be a victim.

I don't think I've heard a single Repug politician echoing that message.

FWIW, that's what I think will happen.
