1. Seems like we did forget for a long time

Lived my entire life without ever hearing of this until the last few years.

The death and destruction was staggering. Over 1250 homes and buildings burnt down. Estimates of the dead range from 75 to 300+.

We learned zero about it in school. Must have been too woke to talk about.
