(12,960 posts)People who can do anything they want and still have lifetime appointments are a problem. Six justices are turning the SC into a kangaroo court that deserves absolutely no respect. If we need a Constitutional Amendment to establish term limits, then we need to get started on that now. Of course, it could not happen quickly because Republicans would obstruct, but at least Dems would be on the record for wanting to end lifetime appointments, and for all federal judges, not just the SC. Trumps incompetent Judge Cannon is a perfect example of why lifetime appointments are bad.
The only requirement in the Constitution is that judges serve with good behavior, but that behavior is not defined. Im wondering if Congress can put some rules around that behavior or whether an amendment would also be needed to expand that requirement.
Im all in favor of expanding the SC by four now, but it would still needs some changes.
