When I quit 20 years ago I had all kinds of energy, and even though I gained weight, I did a lot more moving around.

This time I didn't get that extra energy, but I also haven't been back to the hospital since!

The last cigarette I had put me in the hospital for 7 days, and I thought I had screwed the pooch, frankly. Most of my previous COPD episodes put me in for 3 or 4 days, tops, but that one was really bad and scared the shit out of me. So I said "That's it. I've smoked enough of them fucking things!" The last pack I bought had been that previous February and I had gotten down to bumming one or two a day and taking a drag off and tossing it. The last one, I smoked the whole thing and the next morning I woke up to the all too familiar feeling that a serious episode was coming on. I was on a trip to North Carolina and when I got back to Jacksonville the next day I was seriously into it and had to have my nephew take me to the ER. Edit: I don't know why this got cut off when I posted it, but I meant to say - I was THIS close to being intubated.
