In reply to the discussion: 'Proud' Gunmaker Figures Out How to Make Massacres Worse [View all]NickB79
(20,138 posts)60. And? It's a modified AR-10 firing a modified .308 cartridge
AR-10's have been around for 50+ years.
The .308 Winchester/7.62x51 has been around for 70 years.
The new Sig Sauer .277 Fury, based off the .308, runs a 135 gr bullet at 3100 fps in the new military M5 rifle
Hot .308 loads run a 110-120 gr bullet at 3200 fps from an off the shelf, $1000 AR-10.
It's a round designed with one goal: to punch through Russian and Chinese next-generation ceramic armor that will currently stop 5.56mm bullets.
Hell, given how strong the bullet has to be constructed to do this (heavy jacket, steel core) it would likely be LESS lethal than a 5.56mm bullet. A FMJ 5.56mm tumbles and fragments internally, while a .277 or .308 punches a hole through and through.

They'd just run over to the Russians. Are you sure you know whose side they're on? Not democracy's.

Fear mongering aside: the Army decided that the 5.56 nato round was not sufficient for war

This shit needs to be stopped. There is no way it is needed for private citizens.
