(45,711 posts)I know that there is a strong desire for instant gratification amongst many DUers -- but in the real world, it doesn't work that way. Typically, in a train/individual accident, there is an initial report of the accident even before the name of the victim is known. Then a follow up report with the name of the victim and a statement that the incident is being investigated. How long that investigation takes depends a lot on the circumstances, but because of the possibility of charges against the railroad or the engineer, because of other issues of potential liability, because of the need to understand what happened in case remedial measures should be considered to reduce the chances of it happening in the future -- it takes time.
In this case, the accident occurred at night and outside a station stop. The possibility of video showing the accident occurring or of their being eyewitnesses is low, but presumably the investigation will consider that. It may be that the OP will never get satisfaction, not because of a cover up but because information about exactly what happened that night in the dark may simply not exist.
