(67,782 posts)First, Schumer didn't vote AGAINST the Freedom to Vote Act, he voted against CLOTURE. Title of the vote:
Question: On Cloture on the Motion to Proceed (Motion to Invoke Cloture: Motion to Proceed to S. 2747 )
At first he DID vote for cloture, but at the last minute changed his vote to Nay when it was clear cloture wouldn't have been invoked. If he voted for cloture and it failed, he couldn't re-introduce the bill at a later date. Senate Majority Leaders have been doing this for decades.
If you look through all the votes this session, you'll find a number of other cloture votes for which he voted Nay. It's what they do.
On the other hand, the House doesn't hold cloture votes - they only vote for bills once and for all in the session. And for those Democrats who voted Nay on the BIF, it was one and done. No reruns like in the Senate where cloture is involved.
Plus, despite what you said above ("Just like the Squad did for both the BIF and the BBB" ), all those who voted Nay on BIF in the House voted Yea on BBB.

However, I agree with what you gloriously stated the other day, "Read it. Learn it. Live it."
