The song "Gloria" was originally recorded by a European singer in 1979 and was covered many times by other European artists over the following two years. Laura Branigan had a hit with in 1982. She enjoyed success for ten years until she put her career on hiatus to care for her terminally ill husband. After her husband passed away, she gradually resumed her career. She passed away unexpectedly of a brain aneurysm in 2004. In the 2018-2019 NHL season, the Saint Louis Blues hockey team turned their season around (coincidentally or not) when the team informally adopted Laura Branigan's cover of "Gloria" as its anthem. That season, the team won its first-ever Stanley Cup.
