(10,735 posts)Our institutions held against a frontal assault. The votes were certified. The Electoral College convened and voted. The court system threw out dozens of frivolous challenges. Congress was seated. The electoral votes were certified. Biden and Harris will enter office on the 20th.
The military made it well-known that Trump needed to get bent.
The only thing Trump managed was to torpedo himself by whipping up an insurrectionist mob that had a 0% chance of succeeding in keeping Trump in power. Dangerous? Yes. A national tragedy for a country that prides itself on being the oldest democracy? Also yes.
But the systems we have in place to prevent all that Trump attempted did their jobs at the moment of their greatest testing.
For me, that's something to celebrate. Our constitutional system was sorely tested, and it passed. An autocrat tried to break our system with every tool at his disposal, and he failed miserably.
I always knew between Election Day and Inauguration was going to be an absolute Trumpian shitshow to eclipse all of his previous shitshows. I did not imagine an attack on the Capitol by discount Y'All Qaeda, but it was always going to be something.
And the nation is sling-shotting right back in his face. Outside of the moronscape, Americans are appalled, social media are pulling out his fangs, and our Democratic leaders are now politically empowered by the capital they earned from this, to go as hard at a President as I think has happened in American history.
The dumbass didn't shoot himself in the foot. He took a shotgun to his face.
