(82,383 posts)They did not take over the government; they did not overthrow it. They couldn't. They are just stupid if they thought they were going to.

(7,964 posts)They didn't overthrow the government so everyone should stop making a big deal out of it, huh? Earlier you were crying crocodile tears over the poor terrorist who was shot and killed saying she didn't deserve to die. How about the Capitol cop? Any tears over him or is his death no big deal too?

(82,383 posts)Either/or thinking. Straw men. Emotional reasoning.
The people claiming there could be an actual coup are wrong. It's a lot harder than what they did. They did not take over the government and could not. That is all I said. Calm down, geez.
Bradshaw3
(7,964 posts)Emotional blindness to fact on your part. Stop minimizing what has gone on and defending terrorists. Looking at your past posts belie your post. Look in the mirror before giving advice to others.

(7,964 posts)I opined against the doomers who said dump wouldn't leave or that they would take the win away from Biden. I said that was defeatist. They were wrong. But some things they were right about.

(15,522 posts)while causing destruction and terrorizing the people inside, and the whole country, is nothing.
You need to learn the definition of strawman.

(1,406 posts)I made a few posts that this was my main concern. Mobs of people somehow interrupting the process.
And the police forces have to be ready for more.

(15,909 posts)...but Trump stoking violent response from his supporters, that seemed very likely and predictable to me.

(6,269 posts)as I have learned, IF NOT WRONG stick to your guns no matter who mocks you. Thick skin necessary here as in all political forums and live groups.

(933 posts)Its important to raise the flag, hoist that trial balloon every single time. It triggers the conversation and having that conversation is the real deal.
Back in the day, there was the majority report and the minority report. This was an attempt to give honest weight to the complete discussion and not silence those voices. I was always more interested in the minority report.
You can see that silencing in operation, too. It frequently starts with, Who could have known...?

A number of members were saying that Pence might throw out the votes of some states and Biden wouldn't be certified.
I don't recall on single person saying there won't be a protest. There was and it failed miserably in attempting to accomplish what they wanted to do.

(23,515 posts)Ive had posts removed because they were deemed too far fetched. This group of Q followers have been obsessed with the child sex ring conspiracy theory for years. I knew how powerful that is because if you believe it it excuses anything. People will kill and feel zero remorse if they think theyre fighting pedophiles. Thats what is driving the most bloodthirsty of them, theyre all in on that.
And theyd been screaming about storming the Capitol for weeks. Everyone knew what was coming in Wednesday. When these people go to court, their social media will be used to prove premeditation, they werent just going along, they knew that storming the halls of Congress was why they came to DC.

(19,868 posts)I expected them to be a rabid mob from all I'd read they were saying online. It was that they weren't squashed like bugs for doing it.
That they didn't have the proper police in place to quash this when it rose up showed me just how precarious our situation is under these dangerous whack job politicians.
This is why politicians were cowering to Trump. They were afraid of his mob being unleashed on them physically.

(5,969 posts)storming the Capitol. I've rather seen many speculations that the Congress somehow won't count the electoral votes for Biden and needless questions about what will happen if case x happens. The Repub's attempts to stop the inevitable clearly failed and never had any chance of success given the numbers in Congress.
That the Repubs would try every bs to play to their base was pretty much expected though.

(40,023 posts)You are actually pretty upbeat.
I see one post where you say you expect some military action overseas and another where you say Trump doesn't have a plan; that he's just acting out but not one of the kind you describe in the heading of your OP.
On Wednesday, you said this in response to the riot:
"We can use these events to our advantage!"
I did only look at every post you made in GD since the beginning of November so there is the possibility that you shouted warnings in other forums here or you are actually talking about other members shouting warnings.

Sympthsical
(10,735 posts)Our institutions held against a frontal assault. The votes were certified. The Electoral College convened and voted. The court system threw out dozens of frivolous challenges. Congress was seated. The electoral votes were certified. Biden and Harris will enter office on the 20th.
The military made it well-known that Trump needed to get bent.
The only thing Trump managed was to torpedo himself by whipping up an insurrectionist mob that had a 0% chance of succeeding in keeping Trump in power. Dangerous? Yes. A national tragedy for a country that prides itself on being the oldest democracy? Also yes.
But the systems we have in place to prevent all that Trump attempted did their jobs at the moment of their greatest testing.
For me, that's something to celebrate. Our constitutional system was sorely tested, and it passed. An autocrat tried to break our system with every tool at his disposal, and he failed miserably.
I always knew between Election Day and Inauguration was going to be an absolute Trumpian shitshow to eclipse all of his previous shitshows. I did not imagine an attack on the Capitol by discount Y'All Qaeda, but it was always going to be something.
And the nation is sling-shotting right back in his face. Outside of the moronscape, Americans are appalled, social media are pulling out his fangs, and our Democratic leaders are now politically empowered by the capital they earned from this, to go as hard at a President as I think has happened in American history.
The dumbass didn't shoot himself in the foot. He took a shotgun to his face.

(18,486 posts)But there weren't many denying that there would be violence or riots - most agreed that that was likely but said it wouldn't stop Biden's election from being certified and him from becoming president or keep Trump in power a minute after noon on 1/20.
And that has, so far, proven correct.

(25,816 posts)that I've seen here, and not just in the last few months. And the sky is falling too.
This nation is much strong than those people think. But yeah, there is work to do.
I believe that lawmakers have learned and I hope that the media have learned too.
I've also seen innumerable posts about leaving this country, turning tail and running.

(10,777 posts)We should never take anything for granted. It looks like American democracy will live another two years, but we'll never know how close we just came to losing it. And, of course, it isn't really over yet.

(37,902 posts)as to the law, congressional, and court decisions with what anyone who has been watching and listening to Trump and his mobs expected as to their criminal behavior.
The military (as a whole) did not attempt to stop counting electoral votes
Trump did not declare martial law
Pence, and the Congress, did their jobs
The courts have rejected Trump's attempts to overturn the election 63 times
Biden has been formally declared president-elect
That said, everyone I know, who did not sleep through the attacks on the statehouses in MI and OH, or the plots against the governor of MI expected violence Wed. That is different in nature from endless prediction that the political system would fail - and that the election would be overturned by political machinations.
The ONLY thing that surprised me were the capital police officers who did not seem to make any attempt to bar entry to the building at one of the entrances to the building.
Hortensis
(58,785 posts)crowd, then so far you were wrong and those telling you our nation would hold were right.
