(149,849 posts)I called the municipal water company to report it. A couple of trucks pulled up and they started checking things out. Both workers were masked, to protect each other. I talked to them after they had finished their evaluation, while wearing a mask and standing about 20 feet away. An hour later, there were six trucks, a backhoe, a pavement cutter vehicle with a compressor and jack-hammers, and lots of workers. Everyone had masks on as they worked. Someone came to the doors to tell people that their water would be off for a couple of hours. Masked, and rang the doorbell, and then backed off about 15 feet to inform me of the shut-off.
I called at 3 PM. At 10 PM, the break was repaired, the hole was filled, and everyone was gone. The next day they replaced the asphalt to finish the repair. That's how that kind of stuff should be handled.
I'd have sent the HVAC guy away, too. Then, a day or two later, I'd call him and tell him why and that he might want to consider changing his anti-mask attitude. I'd do him that favor, but would never call him again for work on my system.
