This is the guy I have used for 15 years. I know he's a Trumper; never was obnoxious about it but I finally said fuck it. I found another service person who came come this PM. It's 54 in the house and a tad chilly but fuck that crap. Goddamn trumper asshole.

(24,568 posts)Good for you. We cant change these assholes but at least we can hit them where it hurts.
We had to call AAA a couple months ago for a dead battery in my husbands diesel truck. We specifically asked that AAA not send a mechanic from a particular towing company due to their flouting their no-mask baloney on social media. AAA was very interested in knowing what this towing company had been doing. I got a follow up call from them about it after the fact.

(3,393 posts)As long as they pay their bills, you don't blow off a customer, even in good times. But let's not forget that these are the same people that are (supposedly) willing to die for Trump. They won't, of course, but they do like saying they will.

The community needs to be warned about this guy. Review him on Yelp, and on Nextdoor if you have it. Warn your neighbors and friends.
Maybe he has so much business he can afford to lose good customers, but people who are at risk cant afford to have him in their homes. How terrible to be careful, do everything right, give up so much, and end up infected anyway because your furnace needed work.
Just the thought makes me want to cry. Spread the word.

(58,785 posts)that you were unable to continue with his services because he refused to wear a mask at your home during the height of the Covid pandemic. And, of course, offer the name of the HVAC guy who came promptly and in mask.
Psychologists say concern about what other would think of them is the strongest factor that influences people to behave well, or avoid misbehavior. Obviously didn't occur to this schmuck that potentially his entire market might learn about this.

(10,752 posts)Sorry you have to stay cold longer. Even though as a truck driver I stay relatively isolated from everyone else my employers keep on saying "wear a mask" when on shipper's or consignee's property. Though if no-one is within 53 feet of me (length of trailer) I'll drop the mask because my protective glasses get fogged up so easily. Otherwise mask on when out in public.
MineralMan
(150,072 posts)I called the municipal water company to report it. A couple of trucks pulled up and they started checking things out. Both workers were masked, to protect each other. I talked to them after they had finished their evaluation, while wearing a mask and standing about 20 feet away. An hour later, there were six trucks, a backhoe, a pavement cutter vehicle with a compressor and jack-hammers, and lots of workers. Everyone had masks on as they worked. Someone came to the doors to tell people that their water would be off for a couple of hours. Masked, and rang the doorbell, and then backed off about 15 feet to inform me of the shut-off.
I called at 3 PM. At 10 PM, the break was repaired, the hole was filled, and everyone was gone. The next day they replaced the asphalt to finish the repair. That's how that kind of stuff should be handled.
I'd have sent the HVAC guy away, too. Then, a day or two later, I'd call him and tell him why and that he might want to consider changing his anti-mask attitude. I'd do him that favor, but would never call him again for work on my system.

(6,448 posts)Each conversation has taken place through my screen door with the glass down. It's because I don't answer without my mask on. (As a former teacher, I now have to "model" good behavior for grown-ups.) One service guy came just minutes after the hospital told me that Dad had died from the Trump virus. I made it a point to share that with him.
It helps that I have one leg and they see me in a wheelchair.
What doesn't help is that I haven't seen my (Trumper) prosthetic guy since June, when I was the only one wearing a mask of five in the place and haven't been to P/T since February because both therapists are Trumpers.

(48,187 posts)He showed up wearing a neck gaiter and it looked good at the door, but as he worked it kept crawling down as he talked. He would pull it up again, but it did make me uneasy. Hubby and I were wearing KN95s and it's been 10 days now. *fingers crossed*
SunSeeker
(57,082 posts)If it's been 10 days, you're likely out of the woods.
I keep a box of disposable surgical masks by my front door. If a service person shows up with a gaiter or no mask, I ask them to put one of the surgical masks on. Nobody has refused so far, fortunately.
I supply my housecleaners, who come every two weeks, with surgical masks and vinyl disposable gloves. It's worth it to me to know they're wearing clean gloves and masks in my house. Even then, I leave the house once they arrive.

(3,946 posts)Can you offer some of your strategies? Do you just engage them in political discussions to find out who is a Trumper and who isn't or what? It's easier to do with "friends" or personal acquaintances, a bit trickier with professionals.

(10,476 posts)the country. I'm pretty sure the site was OpenSecrets.org, but I cannot find the map on the site any more. You can search on names. For instance, this search returned a lot of results https://www.opensecrets.org/donor-lookup/results?name=Donald+Trump, but when I searched on my own name, there were no results, even though I have made donations.
You can also do public info searches on individuals. MyLife is one that often will say if the person is registered to a party. Here's a random person the site IDs as a registered Democrat. Not sure how accurate or up to date the info is, though. https://www.mylife.com/elizabeth-schellenger/e90196698030
Also, sometimes if you ask Dems you know, they can recommend Dem-run businesses.
I wish it were easier, but its not impossible to have some success in avoiding passing our money to Republicans. If Steve Schmidt were to suggest we all do this, I'll bet there would be more tips floating around on how to find Dem companies, doctors, carpenters, etc.

(15,767 posts)We've been putting off any repairs inside we don't have to absolutely have to have done, but if something becomes necessary to get something fixed I ask before they show up. So far there hasn't been anybody who hasn't been even keen to express their policy on using masks etc.
It's been my experience that most places know in this time of economic downturn the last thing they want to do is lose any business by not acting sensibly in people's homes. So far I haven't had one place refuse to use PPE and maintain sensible distances.
