(32,017 posts)I know some Mexican-Americans, some Puerto-Rican Americans, some Cuban Americans, and some Columbian Americans. Except for the Cubans, of whom I am not fond, theyre all awesome people in their own ways, but they are outrageously different. It is silly and self-defeating to lump them together. They arent even fond of one another, for various reasons, and I want to respect that.
If and when we Democrats reach out to them, politically, we need to do so in a far-more-sensitive and respectful manner. Theyre not the same, and its insulting and demeaning for us to act as if they are homogeneous.
With a special shout out to my Puerto-Rican friends. Yall are great, and I am thrilled that you look like youre going to agree (finally) to take a shot at being a State of the United States.
