Sounds like the police were being warm and fuzzy to a bereaved mother doesn't it? Wrong.
Reality: The police notified this woman via facebook to call them. They wanted her to call them so that they could notify her of her son's death. However, inasmuch as they were not her Facebook friends, the message just went into the "Other" folder. And, when the woman did see it, she assumed that it was a fake. (Wouldn't you have?)
The mother learned of her son's death after the police sent a Facebook message to her daughter.
Police said they couldn't find any other way to communicate with the mom. She's been at the same job for 13 years.
