TOPEKA | A union has filed legal and administrative actions seeking to delay Gov. Sam Brownback's proposal to offer a voluntary retirement program for state employees.
The Kansas Organization of State Employees filed the complaints Wednesday against Brownback's proposal, which he announced Tuesday. It asked a Shawnee County judge to block the plan until administrative reviews are completed.
And in a filing with the Kansas Public Employee Relations Board, union leaders argued that the state is required to discuss the proposal with the union before implementing it.
Brownback says the plan would save the state millions of dollars.
