A national Gallup poll released today shows more Americans side with public employee unions than with governors who are trying to strip collective bargaining rights and slash public services.
Just under half, or 48%, of those surveyed support unions and public workers, as opposed to 39% who agree with the governors. Support for unions is highest among Democrats, at 70%, and also young adults age 18-34, at 61%.
The poll was conducted by Gallup/USA Today March 25-27, after the Wisconsin legislature passed Gov. Scott Walker’s (R) anti-worker bill, but before Ohio Gov. John Kasich’s (R) measure Senate Bill 5 (SB 5) was passed by that state’s legislature and signed this week.
