my boyfriend got a survey today from the dnc and howard |
|
dean. they have asked him to represent my town in a grassroots survey of democratic leaders.
my boyfriend lives with me in a residence i own. i have owned this home since 1988. he has lived at this address since 2000.
when i turned 21 (too many years ago), i registered to vote and have not missed a national election and very few local elections since then. i was originally registered as an independent but have been a registered democrat for about 20 years now. on the other hand, not only does my boyfriend NOT vote but he has never, in his 55 years, been registered to vote! he doesn't believe his vote makes a difference and i cannot convince him otherwise.
in addition, lately i have been contributing to various political (democratic) causes and signed not a few petitions. my bf has NEVER made a political contribution nor signed a petition.
so my question is . . . why does he get all of the literature from political parties? i think it's because he is considered the head of this household . . . a household he doesn't even own . . . which quite frankly infuriates me! i consider it blatant gender bias altho' i suppose they could be trying to recruit him.
i am going to complete this survey and return it to the dnc. however, i will not contribute as requested. had they sent this survey to me, i probably would . . . and i probably will in the future.
i guess my point here is that my own party has made me feel like a second class citizen . . . my opinion does not count as much as the opinion of someone who doesn't give a damn!
i'm just a little ticked off.
thanks for listening.

1. Ellen, chill out a little and explain to the DNC they've made a mistake |
|
Granted, they perhaps made an assumption he was the head of the household, but perhaps they were asking him because he is male or some other reason...why not explain you own the home and are the political activist in it, and ask them why they sent the survey to him?

All I got from the DNC today was a letter asking for more cash.

It's the first survey I've gotten from the party that isn't completely stupid. I'm gonna fill it out and send it back to :loveya:Howard. :loveya:

4. Since I live alone, I got that survey sent to me in my own name |
|
but I found the multiple choice format slanted heavily toward DLC positions.
Since I know these things won't be read for much but the accompanying check (they hope), I'm giving it a miss.
I sincerely hope Dean kicks them out of power before they manage to subvert him.

5. Weird. My dad got a survey and I didn't. |
|
He's 75 and has never been active in anything, though he votes Democratic.
I'm a leader in various activist groups, a local Democratic Party officer and a delegate to the state Dem convention.
I think they throw darts at a map to decide who gets these surveys.

The Demos are failing us. They are fiddling while Democracy is burning. Time for a new moderate party. The rich also control the Demo Party. Figure is out. It ain't the Right against the Left. It's the rich and the gullible against the rest of us. rhett o rick

12. I am a moderate first and Demo second |
|
I don't believe in blindly following anyone. I am certainly not drinking the cool-aide with the Rightys, but i m disappointed at the lack of outrage from the Demo's in Congress. With a few exceptions, they mildly objecting to this major attack on Democracy. Like Kerry, is he in favor of the War or not??? Who would know. If the Righty's take away the filibuster, the Demo's should walk out. It is time for some action. Rhett

15. Hmm, I'm politically active, not my husband, and I get all the mail |
|
and fund-raising requests, etc.
Really quite a lot of it.
He gets almost nothing. Only a generic Democratic mailer, like once every year or two.

except letters and calls asking for money. I think it's because we're in Georgia, which has been written off for years. Dean is making noises about fixing that - we shall see. Both the SO and I volunteer, donate and are on the board of a local 527 and I'm a member of the State Party. The worst part is the disconnect between the Local, State and National parties.
One has to actively and repeatedly pursue getting involved at ALL levels. But, you know, it's like a dysfunctional family - we all have them to some extent or another - and have to make it work. The harder we work to make it work, the better it will work in the future. I always remind myself that WE are the party!
I totally relate to ellenfl - if it were me, I would probably write a letter when I sent back that survey. You might also try contacting a DNC member in your state. Especially if there is a woman member. This is the kind of crap they need to fix - and fast!
We can't make a goal of building the party if we're shunning existing members. That just don't make no sense...
