Police say Mo. soldier faces Pa. gun charge

WEST NANTICOKE, Pa. — A soldier from St. Louis is charged in northeastern Pennsylvania with carrying a stolen handgun.

Army Pvt. Ian Joseph Trammel was charged after a traffic stop Monday in West Nanticoke, about 100 miles north of Philadelphia. State police say Trammel told them he traveled to Pennsylvania to propose to a woman he has known for about three months.

Police said Trammel is wanted by the Army on a desertion charge.

Investigators say the gun was stolen Saturday from a home in Arnold, Mo. State police were on the lookout for Trammel after receiving a phone call from a relative who was concerned about him.

Trammel is being held on $25,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is set for Jan. 12.
