He didnt think he'd have to "do this" |
|
yesterday my boyfriend and I saw a man standing on a street corner holding a sign that said: "I didnt think I'd ever have to "do this" but god humbles everyone"
several things came to mind when I saw it....First, why does god need to humble anyone in this way? and even more so, why does the man feel he has to mention god on his sign, is it because society needs to believe he believes in order to donate to him?
Its amazing how long a traffic light can seem when your looking at someone who is eagerly waiting for you to lunge your arm out the window with a meager dollar or two. I wanted to get out of the car and give him a big hug and tell him that it will get better and I might be there next week for all I know, after all, my boyfriend and I had just borrowed the $20 we have for just a little bit more food to last us till he gets paid next week. It doesn't matter that we were in a nice newer car, that I own a home that I cant even afford to live in, that my boyfriend works his natural born ass off every day just to squeak by, we still, are just $20 away from being next to him with our own sign:
"We're atheists, god didnt do this to us, republicans did"

"Its amazing how long a traffic light can seem..." when you feel so helpless to make a meaningful difference. I know.
Hang in there and be safe

2. Maybe the guy was a Libertarian or Republican? |
|
Which makes him a very humble man indeed to admit his arrogance.

You and the OP seem more concerned about this political and religious "correctness"
than the fact that he needed help.
Great priorities.:eyes:

5. See it the way you like. |
|
I consider it redemption for the man, and a sign that they aren't above admitting they made a mistake.

and I think "redemption" can wait until after he's secured a meal and
a roof over his head.

Who really cares (or knows why) he mentioned "god" or not? sheesh. The sad fact is that there are a bunch of folks out here who are struggling for even the bare necessities...in this so-called "great" nation of ours.
A few years back (in the winter) I went to my local small-town grocery store. On the way in, I noticed a woman standing outside with a broom or mop or something and a kerosene container and she was crying.
I glanced over at her and went in and did my business at the store and then came back out and saw that she was still there. I went over and asked her if everything was alright and she told me that sometimes she can earn some extra money at the store cleaning up the back room but that they didn't need here that day. Just so happened that the temperature was to fall way below freezing that night and she wanted to earn some money for her kerosene heater and it was already around dusk.
I took her to the gas station and filled her kerosene container (like about 7 dollars or something) and drove her to her place.
You would have thought I gave her the world!!!!
This makes me think sometimes...when I get all down and out about my non-life threatening problems and ask...why me? In fact, truth be told...why NOT me? It could have just as easily BEEN ME and I think that it really doesn't do much good to judge anyone because life can turn on a fricking dime for any of us at any given moment!

9. I hope that was all sarcasm |
|
and these days, on this particular board it is getting a bit hard to tell!
Alright, I can acknowledge, it was pretty good writing and that it was sarcasm ;)
but it does seem a bit like poking folks who are hurting with no expectation of relief in the next 40 years or so.
To properly misquote dickens, "God help us all"
