Tell everyone you know to demonstrate with you on Sept 5 for a "Universal Living Wage."
According to The Mayor's 16th Annual Survey on "Hunger and Homelessness in American Cities" dated December 14, 2000, the leading cause of hunger and homelessness is low-paying jobs. It was reported that "Despite being in a period of unprecedented economic expansion, low-income wage workers and their families are finding it increasingly difficult to locate decent affordable housing; increasingly, they find themselves among a growing population of homeless." Also in a previous year's Conference of Mayors report, it was asserted that "in every state, more than the minimum wage is required to afford a one or two bedroom apartment at 30% of earned income."
