Homeless Veterans need the DU 's help
Edited on Mon Aug-07-06 04:45 PM by Monkeyman
A new shelter for homeless veterans in Wheaton IL is a house without occupants until its administrators can dig up $95,000 to get its assistance program up and running.

The beds are made, there food in the cupboards, but the only people in the house on the wall are framed photos from wars gone by. Bob Adams and Dirk Engers pictures. Bob Adams a combat medic from Vietnam,Dirk Enger a Marine from Gulf War One.

The Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans is greared towards helping them get back on their feet, find jobs and be reunited with their family and friends.

Let me tell you about these two vets.Bob Adams has been in the fight for veterans. He has gone to Washington fighting for Grants. He has dedicated his life to helping Veterans. Bob also was part of Veterans For Kerry in Il.

Dirk Enger has stormed Washington fight for veterans benefits. He also was my co-chair for Veterans For Kerry IL. If you wanted to storm the beachs this Marine would give 110%. Dirk is a young Murtha and will stand tall for veterans.

There are several fundraiser in the works. The next event is a motorcyle ride in Barlett IL. on Aug.13th For info you can call (630)876-4615.

As you have heard 33% of all the homeless are veterans. Bush and company have cut veterans benefits so bad that this number will double. We have all ready started to find Iraqi veterans homeless with families in tow.

So if you find it in your hearts to contribute to help open this shelter you can call Bob Adams at (708)567-4075.

To see how much Dirk is like Murtha here a link.

1. You might post this in GD for a bigger audience.
Sounds like a wonderful cause. I don't have anything to give right now, but I'll bookmark this thread and come back to it when my paychecks start again.

3. This idea might seem fanciful...
But how about an ebay auction to benefit the shelter? They do allow that kind of thing, you know. If just a few people were willing to send out the call and collect items for the auction, all you'd need is someone to contact ebay and post the items. I know I have a couple of cool items I could donate, including some sets of beautiful invitations to the Clinton inaugural. Anyway, it's just an idea.
