Cross-post from the Lounge - one click to aid our sisters in shelters |
|
7th Generation, a green-friendly paper products company, will donate one box of all-cotton tampons or pads to a women's shelter in any state you choose when you click on the link below. As far as I can tell, it's legitimate and will be a much-needed aid for these small shelters.
Women's shelters in the U.S. go through thousands of tampons and pads monthly, and, while agencies generally assist with everyday necessities such as toilet paper, diapers, and clothing, this most basic need is often overlooked. You and I may take our monthly trips down the feminine care aisle for granted, but, for women in shelters, a box of tampons is five dollars they can't spare. Here's some good news: you can help us contribute to rectifying this situation by making a virtual donation!
For each virtual donation, Seventh Generation will send a pack of organic cotton tampons or chlorine-free pads to a shelter in your state.http://www.tampontification.com/donate.php

Went to a fundraiser for a GLBT anti-domestic violence org last weekend. I'm thinking about volunteering for their phone line once we get moved up to the big city.

4. I sure hope you can make the time to do it |

My way of helping is by creating objets d'art for auctions. I am pleased to say that they do their part in fundraising.
I haven't been keeping up with the gossip, so I didn't know you were moving: I hope the move is a good one for you!

'Thanks to the thousands of you who have visited this page to donate tampons and pads. We are moved by your overwhelming response to this initiative and are looking forward to distributing these much-needed products to shelters across North America in the coming months. We have received so many click in the past few weeks that we are temporarily suspending the click-to-donate action until we can get all of the product out to the shelters that need it. While you're here, please sign up for our monthly newsletter, so that we can keep you posted about our donations program. In the meantime, please contribute your creative thoughts to our 'tampontificate' page and make plans to volunteer your time at a homeless shelter in your area. If you currently work at a shelter, please contact Seventh Generation to submit your shelter information and we will add you to our donations list. Thanks again to all!'
Thought you all would like to know.
Btw, I made the assumption that "women's" shelter referred to "battered" women. I was surprised to see it was "homeless" and I'm not sure why. I know there are many homeless women. I know too well. I also know about the battered. I'll be giving it some thought tonight. Either way, we need more shelters for both, sadly.
Edit: to fix bold tags
