I did amateur rocketry with some buddies in college 25 years ago. Rules were more lax, then.
Alas, in a post 9-11 world these things get harder to do. Great job by this rocket team.

Most people don't realize the amount of energy required to reach that height. At that altitude they were nearing the ends of drag inducing atmosphere.
It's even more amazing they recovered it only a few miles away. See the video where it reached apogee and consider the odds that it will return anywhere near the launch site. Well done!
