Some help with math

I'm trying to figure the annual need for natural gas for the Tar sands project.


6 billion (cubic feet) times 360 = 6.11643886 × 10 to the 10th meters cubed

Or

Thats 6 billion CF of nat gas used a day, times 360 days (close to a year)=6.11643886 × 10 to the 10th times 9 for cubic feet.

So what is 6.11643886 × 10 to the 10th times 9 ?

Is that 18tcf?

1. How are you multiplying 6 by 360 to get 60?

6x10⁹ x 360 = 2.16x10¹²

That's six billion times 360 (3.60x10³).

The easy way to do it is to say 6x360=2160, and 10⁹x10³=10¹², so 6x10⁹ x 3.60x10³ = 2.16 x 10¹², or even easier, 6x360=2160, so 6x10⁹ x 360 = 2160x10⁹ or 2.16x10¹²

Likewise, 6.12x10¹⁰ x 9 = 5.51x10¹¹ (6.12x9=55.08).

2. I need the answer in TCF to compare it to other numbers, the reserves of nat gas

140tcf. trillion cubic feet.

So you're looking at 2.16 tcf

3. Why are you converting to meters? 6 billion is already in cubic feet - no?

6 x 10**9 cubic feet/ day * 360 days = 2.16 * 10**12 cubic feet = 2.16 tcf (I assume tcf means trillion cubic feet).

I think its 2.16 tcf - unless I'm not seeing something.

SO 6 billion CF of nat gas a day, = 2.16tcf per year.

Yes Tcf =trillion cubic feet

SO if you had 140tcf of nat gas, it would last for 64.8 yrs.
